Rotating drawing platform for compass work

Keep the Compass Steady.
Turn the Platform.
Complete the Circle.

A 13 × 13-inch drawing platform with a 12 × 12-inch silicone surface and ½-inch-wide outer ridges. Hold your compass steady and turn the entire platform to draw a full circle without twisting your hand or stopping to re-grip.

The Problem

A Full Turn Can Be Awkward.

  • Maintaining even pressure on the compass point and marking tip is difficult through a full turn.
  • Stopping to release and re-grip the compass can shift the center or interrupt the line.
  • The result may be a doubled line, an uneven curve, an incomplete circle, or torn paper.

The Solution

Let the Platform Do the Turning.

  • Hold the compass steady and rotate the platform beneath it.
  • The lightly tacky silicone surface grips the paper while the entire platform glides across a clean tabletop.
  • Turn in either direction to complete the circle with fewer stops and changes of grip.
01 / GRIP

Keep the Paper in Place.

The lightly tacky silicone surface helps the sheet turn with the platform without clips or tape.

02 / TURN

Keep a Comfortable Hold.

Rotate the platform with your free hand while maintaining light, even pressure on your compass.

03 / POSITION

Choose Your Circle’s Center.

There is no fixed center axle. The compass point establishes the temporary axis wherever you place it within the working area.

Watch Demonstration Videos

These two short demonstrations show the platform rotating beneath a steady compass in different positions.

Centered Rotation

A circle drawn with the compass point near the platform’s center.

Off-Center Rotation

The compass point sets the axis; a fixed spindle does not dictate placement.

Leave enough clear tabletop space for the platform’s corners to rotate freely, particularly when drawing off-center.

How to Use

Set Your Radius.
Turn the Platform.

Use a standard drawing or drafting compass—not the kind that points north.

  1. Place the platform on a clean, smooth, level table or desktop.
  2. Clear enough space for every corner to turn freely. Allow at least 19 × 19 inches of clear tabletop space for centered rotation of the 13-inch platform. Leave more room when your compass point is off-center.
  3. Place paper on the gripping surface and press it down lightly so it stays in position.
  4. Adjust your drafting compass to the desired radius.
  5. Place the compass point at the center of the circle you want to draw. It does not need to be at the center of the platform.
  6. Hold the compass steady with light, even pressure on the point and marking tip.
  7. With your free hand, turn the platform through one complete revolution. The entire platform and the paper turn together beneath the steady compass.

What is included?

One Perfect Circle™ rotating drawing platform measuring 13 × 13 inches overall, with a 12 × 12-inch silicone surface and ½-inch-wide outer ridges. A drafting compass, paper, and marking instrument are not included.

Construction & work surface

A small-batch 3D-printed plastic platform with a lightly tacky silicone surface and smooth plastic underside. The platform measures 13 × 13 inches overall; the silicone surface measures 12 × 12 inches, bordered by ½-inch-wide outer ridges. Slight color, texture, and layer-line variations are normal.

Use on a clean, smooth, flat tabletop. Keep the compass and paper within the working area and clear nearby objects before rotating.

Care

Follow the cleaning and care instructions supplied with your order. Use only the pressure needed to hold the compass point and marking tip in place; excessive pressure can puncture the paper or damage the work surface.

A Drawing Aid, Not a Cutting Mat.

Do not use knives, rotary cutters, or other cutting tools on the surface. A drafting compass has a sharp point; handle it carefully and directly supervise young children.
